1.  Scrutinize the carpeting and snag any objects that are too bulky for your vacuum.  Pick up up all objects that might cause your vacum cleaner to back up up.  The smaller objects are ok, as long as you know the objects are tiny enough to slip away through the vacuum.  Be on the lookout for straw, thread, and string as it can be hung in the vacuum hose and cause a clog.  Hazards like this is also bad for the agitators, they can get wrapped around in the agitators and result in more troubles.

2.  Look in the vacuum bag to be certain that the bag is not full.  If the bag is filled, replace it. A filled bag is not able to take in much filth., as the ability will be greatly diminished attributable to the dirt occupying a great deal of bag storage and throttling the air flow through the bag. Dyson vacuums do not have this issue, even when the dirt bin is overfull, suction is never gone.

3.  After you start vacuuming, always vacuum forwards if possible. Your vacuum is built to best catch filth by traveling ahead. In addition you chance injuring your vacuum cord by vacuuming rearwards.

4.  Try to overlap your vacuum strokes.  Overlapping strokes will pick up any dirt residue left from the external borders of the vacuum header.

5.  Change the vacuum stroke steering to cut matting in your carpeting. Vary the vacuum steering every time or every other time you vacuum the carpeting.

6.  On nooks, apply a wet cloth or a crevice attachment that hooks up to your vacuum cleaner.  This gets the nooks and tight regions clean, and they  won’t stand out from the remainder of the rug.

7.  Remove dust motes and dirt by sweeping a vacuum wand under furniture and beds.

Vacuuming up cat litter on rugs or floors can be a pain. To get cat litter out of the deep fibers of the rug, try an upright vacuum cleaner with a power brush.  It is important to get cat litter up and out as fast as possible. If it gets beaten in the carpet pile or incorporated, cat litter will be nearly impossible to get out.

Vacuum cleaners with a rotating brush or combination beater and brush bar will loosen soil and then suck it out.  The motorized brush bar beats out the soil from carpeting fibers and even loosens embedded soil, leaving your carpet cleaner than a non motorized brush bar.

Splashing some baking soda on the carpeting before you vacuum will take out pet scents.  Let the backing soda sit for a few minutes, then vacuum the carpeting.  Baking soda is much less expensive than carpeting fresheners and it does the same thing.

Vacuuming leaves your rugs fresh and extends the life of the rug. Vacuuming on a regular basis will keep your carpeting looking good all the time and your house smelling great.
